MAROX
Composition
1 ml of the drug contains an active substance:
Maropitant citrate in terms of maropitant – 10 mg.
Excipients.
Pharmacological properties
АТС vet code QA04 – Antiemetics and antinausea drugs. QA04AD90 – Maropitant.
Maropitant is a highly selective neurokinin 1 (NK1) receptor antagonist that blocks the action of substance P, a key neurotransmitter involved in the vomiting process, in the central nervous system.
Maropitant mimics the structure of substance P and interacts with NK1 receptors, preventing them from binding to substance P and thus reducing stimulation of the emetic center. By inhibiting the binding of substance P in the vomiting center, maropitant offers broad-spectrum effectiveness against both neural (central) and humoral (peripheral) causes of vomiting. It also has antiemetic activity against central and peripheral emetogens, including apomorphine and emetic root syrup (in dogs) and xylazine (in cats).
Indications for use
Dogs:
- for the treatment and prevention of nausea caused by chemotherapy;
- to prevent vomiting, except that caused by motion sickness;
- for the treatment of sick animals exhibiting symptoms of vomiting in combination with other supportive measures;
- to prevent postoperative nausea and vomiting and to enhance recovery from general anesthesia, following the use of μ-opiate receptor agonist morphine.
Cats:
- for the treatment and prevention of nausea caused by chemotherapy;
- for the treatment of sick animals with symptoms of vomiting in combination with other supportive measures.
Route of administration and dosage
Subcutaneously or intravenously.
The drug is administered subcutaneously or intravenously once a day at a dose of 1 mg of maropitant per 1 kg of body weight (1 ml of the drug per 10 kg of body weight) for 5 consecutive days. Intravenous administration of the drug should be carried out once, without mixing the drug with other solutions.
To prevent vomiting, the drug should be administered 1 hour before the procedure. The drug's effect lasts for about 24 hours, so treatment can be carried out the day before the administration of drugs that can cause vomiting, such as chemotherapy drugs.
Shelf life
24 months.
After the first puncture of the vial, MAROX injection solution should be stored in the refrigerator at a temperature of 2-8°C and used within 60 days from the date of first puncture. The stopper can be punctured no more than 25 times.
