Composition
100 ml of preparation contains following active substances:
Enrofloxacin – 10.0 g,
Trimethoprim – 3.0 g,
Colistin sulfate – 50 000 000 IU; Additional ingredients.
Pharmacological properties
Tricolin – is a complex drug formulation; its therapeutic impact is caused by a synergistic effect of product’s active substances: Enrofloxacin, Trimethoprim and Colistin sulfate.
Due to synergism of acti e ingredients even bacterias that are resistant to separate compounds of product show high sensitivity to Tricolin. Ingredients of Tricolin have differ- ent action modes, thus blocking bacterial resistance developement.
Enrofloxacin is a synthetic chemotherapeutic agent belonging to fluoroquinolones; it inhibits DNA synthesis in nucleus of microorganisms’ cells. Enrofloxacin has bactericidal action against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria like Staphylococcus aureus, Enterobacteriaceae, Pasteurella spp., Brucella spp., Haemophilus spp., Actinobacillus spp., Mycoplasma spp., Chlamydia spp., Bordetella bronchisеptica, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Salmonella spp., etc.
Trimethoprim inhibits the bacterial reductase of dihydrofolic acid (DHF). Trimethoprim is active against a broad range of microorganisms including Gram-positive and Gram-negative aerobic bacteria, Chlamydia, Pectoris (Actinomycetes), certain Mycobacteria and Protozoa, as well as many anaerobic bacteria. Mycobacterium tuberculosis, Treponema pallidum, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Mycoplasma species – are not sensiti e, or resistant to Trimethoprim. Haemophilus parainfluenzae, Haemophilus ducreyi, Citrobacter freundii etc., Klebsiella oxytoca etc., Enterobacter cloacae, Serratia marcescens and other Gram-negative species are generally susceptible to Trimethoprim.
Colistin is an Antibiotic from the group of polymyxins which are synthesized by aerobic spore-forming coli Bacillus polymyxa. Colistin has a bactericidal action against Gram-negative bacteria like E. coli, Salmonella spp., Pasteurella spp., Haemophilus spp., Bordetella spp. Colistin binds to phospholipids of the cytoplasmic membrane, increases its permeability for both intra- and external cellular components which leads to destruction of the bacterial cell.
Administration
Treatment of calves (up to 3 months of age), swine and poultry (broilers, breeders, replace- ment chicks, parent and broiler flocks, and meat turkeys) in case of respiratory diseases and digestive tract infecti caused by microorganisms, susceptible to Enrofloxacin, Trimethoprim, Colistin and combinations thereof.
Route of administration and dosages
Animal species | Dosage | Durationof treatment | Methods |
poultry broilers, breeders, replacement chicks, parent and broiler flocks, meat turkeys | 1,0 ml per 1 L of drinking water | Once a day for 3-5 days In case of Salmonellosis, mixed infections, chronic forms of poultry diseases: 5-7 days may be nacessary | Orally with drinking water |
swine | 0.15-0.3 ml per 1 kg body weight, or 0,5-1,0 ml per 1 L of drinking water | ||
calves until 3 months of age |
During treatment animals should take medicated drinking water only.
Curative solution is to be prepared daily in a volume of water required for the intake by during whole day.
Withdrawal period
For meat – 7 days after last treatment. Meat reccived before this time should be disposed or feed to non-productive animals, depending on the conclusion of the veterinarian.
